Description: Chamber music by this Italian serialist was offered four years ago by Naxos (04K096); here we have the first of four volumes of piano music, including a couple of early, pre-serial works - the 1944 Fantasia whose tortured chromaticism comes out of late Scriabin, and the 1947 Ricercar where Bach serves as a model for the exactitude Togni needed to achieve. Needless to say, the two transcriptions are, of course, tonal, but in which he turns a penetrating, x-ray eye in 1973 on Mahler's Adagietto (no syrupy sweetness here) and acts in a similar way on the five Bach chorale preludes (1976) which are dedicated to his close friend Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.
