Description: Rolón moved to Paris in 1900 and studied with Moszkowski and, later, Nadia Boulanger and Dukas, meaning that this 1912 piano quartet is not suffused with Mexican folk melodies; in fact, the main influences here are Ravel, Debussy and Chausson. It’s thirty minutes long and, if you’re worried about the living composers whose works it’s coupled with, you needn’t be. Both were written for the performers here in 2014, Angulo providing a three-movement piece in neo-classical style with a slow movement bolero and a final movement huapango; as he says in the notes, the composer’s favorite two things are Mexico and Mozart. Gamboa provides a four-course tapas menu of short Latin American dance-types, two of whose titles are actually types of cuisine (Chilpachole and Congrí). Cuarteto Aurora.
