Description: Chaminade’s chamber music is still less-heard than her piano pieces so it’s good to have this new release by the latest lineup of the Parnassus Trio. The trios date from 1880 and 1886, the former showing the lyrical influence of Fauré tinged with German Romanticism while the second trio brings a quality of Germanic drama to the fore in its first movement, the influence of Godard infuses the slow movement with expressiveness and the finale gives us a dash of the Spanisheries so popular among French composers of the time. The smaller-scale couplings are not as salon-y as their titles suggest either. Trio Parnassus.
