Description: Neither of these composers is represented on CD today. Both are Austrian, Zellner a winner of two composition prizes in the last decade or so of his life and von Perger a conductor and director of musical institutions in Rotterdam and Vienna. Zellner’s trio of 1881 is only seven years older than von Perger’s and both are, hardly surprisingly, firmly in the Schumann-to-Brahms stylistic axis. The best way to describe these two works might be to say that Zellner’s is like a crisp, golden pilsner while von Perger’s is an Oktoberfest bock. Concordia String Trio.
