Description: Critics and concertgoers alike in Vienna considered the top two composers of chamber music in the first decade of the 19th century to be Beethoven and Eberl (and performers of their own works too). Of the two, Eberl specialized in unusual and unique combinations of instruments as in the works recorded here, one of which dates from 1806 with the other two being published posthumously. The piano often dominates in music which may pay homage to Mozart (especially in the Op. 41) but which is, in its instrumental experimentation and genre-stretching, is quite Eberl's own.
