JON WARD BAUMAN (b.1939): Symphonies No. 4 "Archangels", No. 5 "Peace" and No. 6 "Spring".

Description: Written during spring terms teaching in Italy in 2002, 2004 and 2005, these are semi-programmatic works (No. 4's movements are "Gabriel", "Raphael", "Uriel" and "Michael", the music describing each of the mythological sky-creatures' attributes) written in a film-score-conservative style, very attractively orchestrated, using melody or melodic motives which are often quite beautiful and which pay tribute to the 20th century American and European symphonic traditions without being pale imitations of anything or anyone within them.
