Description: For all you Martinu fans out there, a new issue featuring the former solo flautist of the Boston Symphony, with a rather rare work (only two other recordings available right now): the 1936 flute/violin sonata. Smith pithily describes Martinu: "his forms are conventional, and his invention inexhaustible". (The Sextet, with jazz and blues elements, isn't exactly over-recorded either.) Fenwick Smith (flute), Sally Pinkas (piano), John Ferrillo (oboe), Thomas Martin (clarinet), Richard Ranti, Suzanne Nelson (bassoons), Haldan Martinson (violin), Rhonda Ryder (cello).
