Description: Music either written for or arranged by Scottish violist Watson Forbes, all of it tonal and melodic with the two sonatas by Orr (1947) and Richardson (1949) at its center. The powerful and serious Orr was available in a 1978 broadcast recording on a Guild disc offered back in December of 2009 but there is no other recording of the more lyrical Richardson. The Nardini is more of an adaptation than a transcription, complete with 20th century harmonies! Martin Outram (viola), Julian Rolton (piano).
