Description: Even though Salmanov uses dodecaphonic methods in the first two of these quartets (which date from 1963 and 1968), the overall impression of all three (as with the first three in this two-volume series - 10O013) is of expressive power, heartfelt lyricism, rhythmic ingenuity and ease of communication with the listener. In fact, the composer's ability to construct melodies and tonal centers from a note-series in Nos. 4 and 5 borders on the astounding; you'd never know what, technically, you were listening to.
