Description: Offered primarily for the little-known Mailly's 1870 sonata, a stern and sturdy three-movement piece which should take its place alongside works by better-known French and Belgian composers of the period. We offered a recording including Maleingreau's suite seven years ago; he differs from his French colleagues in his interest in Gregorian chant but the 13-minute final Toccata of this 1919 work fills the bill anyway. François Houtart (Walcker organ of Abbey of La Cambre, Brussels).
