HERMANN GOETZ (1840-1876): Piano Concertos No. 1 in E Flat and No. 2 in B Flat, Op. 18, Spring Overture, Op. 15.
Catalogue Number: 09S029
Description: Goetz's orchestral works are well worth discovering if you never got them the first time around when cpo recorded them in the mid 90s. There is no Sturm und Drang in Goetz; his muse is lyrical. The first piano concerto, a graduation exercise of 1861, is the only work to employ flashy virtuosity and the 1864 Spring has Mendelssohn all over it. Davide Cabassi (piano), Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra; Kimbo Ishii.
