Description: To note the most obvious thing about this program: only the Hartmann and Smyth are currently available on CD. Kaprálová’s 15-minute Concertino (the third movement was left incomplete) dates from 1939 when she was based in Paris but its spiky, prickly language is more Austrian Expressionist than French Neo-Classical although there are echos of her teacher Martinů in that final movement. Martinů himself wrote his double concerto in 1953, so if you know his symphonies and other orchestral works of the 1940s and 50s, you’ll recognize the style immediately. 2 CDs. Thomas Albertus Irnberger (violin), Milena Viotti (horn), Reinhard Wieser (clarinet), Michael Korstick (piano), Orchester Wiener Concert-Verein; Doron Salomon, Israel Chamber Orchestra (Hartmann); Martin Sieghart, Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt (Martinů); Sieghart.
