ANTON BRUCKNER (1824-1896): String Quintet in F (arr. for large orchestra Gerd Schaller [b.1965]), Overture in G Minor (1863 version).
Catalogue Number: 09U007
Description: Well, this is pretty self-recommending to crazed Bruckner collectors (I’m in long-term recovery): not the first arrangement of the 1878-79 quintet but the first one for a large orchestra and done by a conductor who has been closely involved with the composer for at least the last decade (a 16-CD box of all his Bruckner recordings for this label, including several first recordings of various editions as well as - as organist - some of Bruckner’s organ pieces as well, has just been issued at budget price). The result is a radiant, bright and flowing work which could very easily have been the Sinfonietta that Bruckner didn’t write between his fifth and sixth symphonies. Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra; Gerd Schaller.
