Description: You might call these “Tone Miniatures” because only two of them are longer than eight and a half minutes. Although there only two things here that are premieres - Cowen’s 1903 Rêverie, six minutes of light music, and Hadley’s seven-minute evocation (1923) of the Peak District landmark which gives the work its title - the Vaughan Williams, Howell and Fogg have only been recorded before once (all offered here, on Campion, Dutton Epoch and Albion Records). BBC Philharmonic; Rumon Gamba.
