WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791)/JOHANN WENDT (1745-1801): Don Giovanni for Flute and String Trio.
Catalogue Number: 10J036
Description: Made in 1788, the year after the opera's premiere, this arrangement of overture and 21 excerpts from Don Giovanni is based on a surviving copy of the first edition in the Library of the City of Vienna and indicates the anticipated popularity Wendt expected for the work in living rooms (as opposed to the courtly milieu of the Harmonie, for which he also transcribed much contemporary operatic repertoire). Lasting 80:06 in all, this would appear to be evidence that the Japanese still cling to the old Philips Red Book standards for CD mastering (and don't want to give buyers a price-break). 2 CDs. Wolfgang Schulz (flute), Das Wiener Philharmonia Trio.
