Description: Goldmark's ability to deliver memorable melodies in everywhere evident in these two good-sized works (39 and 35 minutes, respectively). The first comes from 1879 and has the lyrical flow and sunny personality in its outer movements of the young Brahms or of, say, Herzogenberg while the long adagio (over 15 minutes) is both rapt and dramatic with the appearance of Wagner's "Tristan chord". The second quintet is the work of an 84-year-old, published posthumously, but you'd never know it from the youthful vigor of its outer movements (and the scherzo with its very unusual slow "introduction") and the more "modern" harmonies most evident in its finale. Oliver Triendl (piano), Quatuor Sine Nomine.
