Description: Ruders' wide range of stylistic expression can be plainly seen in this collection of works centered around the guitar. The Pestilence Songs set Thomas Nashe's 'A Litany in time of Plague' - the same text that Constant Lambert used in his great Summer's last Will beginning as an initially convincing but slightly suspect pastiche of Elizabethan style, and ending as a cabaret song incorporating off-stage honky-tonk piano. Diferencias takes a familiar Bach fragment and weaves an increasingly intricate web of variations around it, while the fragment itself constantly repeats, itself rearranged and transformed though always recognizable. Rondeau brings together the fragmentation and elaboration and grotesque pastiche elements of the previous works. The solo guitar works from the 1990s exemplify Ruders' highly systematized approach to composition, which nevertheless leaves room for free, improvisatory quality; the earlier Jargon is like a collage of fragmentary allusions to familiar guitar idioms, presented as a kind of stream of consciousness. Jesper Sivebæk (guitar), Kiki Brandt (soprano), Ensemble Fyn.
