Description: All of these composers were associated one way or another with the Leipzig Conservatory and/or the Gewandhaus Orchestra with Schumann leading the way, influencing all of the others by his adoption of the name "Fantasiestück" and the loosely-formed style of short, rhapsodic pieces for various instrumental and chamber combinations. Sitt (a sought-after violin teacher) and Naumann (especially known for his Bach editing and publishing) receive first recordings but the Gade and Reinecke (whose influences here are actually more like Mendelssohn and Weber) are hardly over-recorded either. Ilya Hoffman (viola), Sergei Kudriakov (piano).
