Description: Since we've had two new releases of all three of Gade's sonatas already this year, the major works here are the Børresen (1907), whose elements of concerto-like virtuosity mix with his teacher Sinding's vein of Nordic Romanticism, and the first recording of Maier's sonata. No date is given but it presumably comes from before 1880, when she married Julius Roentgen and settled down to keep house and bear children. It's a vigorous, emotionally high-strung "masculine" sounding work of high Romanticism which will not disappoint any collectors of the genre. Two more Swedish women provide salon-type pieces rich in melodic content. Jean-Claude Bouveresse (violin), Bénédicte Péran (piano).
