Description: If you missed the big BIS box-set reissue of Tcherepnin's symphonies and concertos, here's an even cheaper opportunity: these concertos cover a wide period of the composer's career and differ quite a bit from each other stylistically but high energy is always present in the fast movements and the shadow of Bartók often present throughout, especially in some of the nocturnal slow movements although the Second has some of the percussive qualities of Prokofiev and more obvious influences of such "Ecole de Paris" composers as Ravel, Stravinsky and Honegger while the Fourth is full of pentatonic melodies, delicately scored. 2 CDs. Noriko Ogawa (piano), Singapore Symphony Orchestra; Lan Shui. Original 1999 BIS releases.
