Description: The title of this disc is “Nielsen’s Footsteps” and nothing could describe better the influence he had on the three composers here. In almost every movement, Nielsen looms - in the “Phlegmatic” quality of the first two movements of Senstius’ 1934 quintet or in the flattened sevenths and thirds of the march in Emborg’s 1931 quintet or in the subtitle of Schultz’ 1943 piece “Little Serenade” which looks back to Nielsen’ 1914 Serenata in vano. Schultz is the most independent of the three but “sounding like Nielsen” is a good thing today for collectors of neo-Romantic Danish wind music. Carion.
