Description: Pratté was another Bohemian instrumentalist and composer who moved elsewhere to find a career, this one being largely a teacher of the daughters of wealthy landowners (and a bit of conducting) in Sweden. This massive, 43-minute concerto, which may be as early as 1853 or as late as 1865, certainly stands apart from the works of his harpist contemporaries Nicolas Bochsa and Elias Parish Alvars. The two solo pieces aren’t exactly miniatures either, one using Norwegian and the other, as in the concerto’s finale, Swedish folk or folk-like material. Delphine Constantin-Reznik (harp).
