Description: “The End of Viennese Late Romanticism” is the title of this release which we offer since it contains the only available recording of Wellesz’s fifth quartet (which, having been written in England in 1943, does not belong with its disc-mates - especially Kreisler’s little three-minute jeu d’esprit). The composer himself noted that the quartet “represents, musically, the painful remembrance of all that which had been wiped out.” It was his first significant piece written after his escape to the UK. Auner Quartet.
