Description: Except for the little, seven-minute suite (an orchestration of piano music for young players), everything else here is for soloists and/or chorus and orchestra. The 48-minute Nebuchadnezzar is a typical example of the English choral festival composition, dating from 1934 and premiered at the Three Choirs Festival the following year. Three of its four parts are dramatic narrative, with biblical texts and a shorter epilogue, a prayer taken from the Apocrypha, adds a sacred aspect to the work. Texts included. Mark Padmore (tenor), Neal Davies (bass-baritone), BBC Symphony Chorus and Orchestra; Richard Hickox.
