MICHAEL HAYDN (1737-1806): Serenade in D, MH 68.

Description: Yet another Serenade in D pours out of the Michael Haydn locker (this is the third in less than three years). Lasting almost exactly an hour, this one has a two-movement, 19-minute clarinet concertino embedded in it which is one of the earliest (1764) works which make use of the low chalumeau register. Written at the start of his Salzburg appointment, this is a delightful harbinger of the many lovely serenades to be written in that town by Mozart and others.
