Description: The big, expansive (42 min.) piano quintet of 1944 shows us a Vainberg in his early, pre-Shostakovich mode, writing music still tinged with late Romanticism but also, through its peculiar rhythmic traits and reference to Jewish folk music styles, looks ahead to his later works. The two quartets date from 1966 and 1977, both premiered by the Borodin Quartet, and are in the style which he and his friend Shostakovich were sharing by the 50s and 60s. Golda Vainberg-Tats (piano), Vilnius String Quartet.
