MILOSZ MAGIN (1929-1999): Piano Concerto No. 2, Concerto for Cello, String Orchestra and Timpani
Catalogue Number: 11J102
Label: Acte Préalable
Description: The 1967 piano concerto is a brilliant and scintillating piece of neo-classicism, as if Prokofiev had provided the bustling fast movements (and, in a time warp, John Williams supplied the main theme in the first - one of those things that, heard once, you can't get out of your mind) and Ravel the dreamy slow movement. The cello concerto, from ten years later, is a bit more Romantic in feel and uses Polish dance types - a kujawiak in the slow movement and, as in the piano concerto's finale, an oberek in the last. Justine Verdier (piano), Jaroslaw Domzal (cello), Orchestra of the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Bialystok Branch; Jan Milosz Zarzycki.
