Description: Count this as a luxury item since the total timing of the discs is only 78:05. The packaging is fairly lush, the notes long and maybe too detailed but the glorious Mozartian music of Martín y Soler will make it all worth while for collectors of this neglected Spanish composer. La dora (1783) is a "prologue" intended to precede a three-hour opera seria and is a shameless bootlicking welcome ode in which Jupiter, Apollo and Minvera fawn all over a pair of now-forgotten royal flesh units. The Cantata scenica of 1787 Il Sogno is the real find, since it uses a Da Ponte libretto set in the idealized Arcadian landscape with a shepherd and two nymphs, one of whom dreams of attaining human love. 2 CDs. Italian-English texts. Sunhae Im, Raffaella Milanesi (sopranos), Magnus Staveland (tenor), Reial Companyia Ópera de Cambra; Juan Bautista Otero.
