Description: Only the second recording of Rossini's concerto. Composed around 1845 for a student at the Liceo Musicale of Bologna, this is a bold, striking work which uses a large orchestra and is in a colorful early Romantic style. Coupled with Kreutzer's rarely heard Fantasie and Crusell's concerto-length Concertino of 1826, it's another winner for Chandos and their young award-winning bassoonist. Karen Geoghegan (bassoon), BBC Philharmonic; Gianandrea Noseda.
