Description: Zemlinsky's setting (1922), loosely based on Wilde's "The Birthday of the Infanta" was his take on Alma Mahler's recent abandonment of him and is a fine example of his mature "decadent" style. "The Broken Jug", an 18th century play by Heinrich von Kleist set in a village courtroom, is a half-hour long musical comedy by Ullmann in 1942. Its witty and parodistic elements allowed the composer to satirize the perversion of justice in Nazi Germany in a way that censors could not get; believed lost, the work was rediscovered and premiered in 1996. 16:9 widescreen. NTSC region 0. PCM Stereo or Dolby Digital 5/1 or DTS 5/1. 122 min.
