Description: After several chamber music releases on Atma, this disc whets one's appetite more more of Dubois' orchestral works. The early Concerto capriccioso (1876) is a delightful bravura work in which the orchestra takes a distinct back seat to the pianist but the Fantasie-Stück and the Suite, both from 1912-13, have weightier matters in mind while still tempering them with a serenade-like sensibility at times; at 23 minutes, the Suite is almost a double concerto in reality and seriousness. Two shorter works in the 4-5 minute range finish off an eye-opening disc. Marc Coppey (cello), Orchestre Poitou-Charentes; Jean-François Heisser (piano).
