Description: Spoiled a bit by the lack of English translations, this is still a very interesting disc for song collectors as it spotlights "emigré composers" (except for Schreker) who had to flee Germany for racial or political reasons. And what a variety of styles: the post-World War I Romanticism, twisted by angst, of Schreker and Zemlinsky, the irony, wit and political didacticism of Eisler, the cabaret-cum-musical songs of Grosz, the comfortable Romanticism of Korngold and Gál and the cooly detached, still sort of tonal Goldschmidt. German texts. Christian Immler (baritone), Helmut Deutsch (piano).
