Description: Written between 2006 and 2009, The Seasons, to poetry by Elizabeth Kirschner, is an 80-minute cantata for four voices (one per season) with accompaniment of harp (Fall), piano (Winter), harpsichord (Spring) and guitar (Summer) with all eight performers together in a finale (The Echolocations of Cellos). Bell's ability to capture the sad, autumnal burnt-gold, the icy silver wintry chill, the dewy, yellow-blue spring and the richness and moistness of full life in summer, is uncanny and his response to the deeply-felt, lucidly expressed, often painfully beautiful texts never fails. By rights this should become a staple of American song. The second disc's clutch of neo-baroque pieces for harpsichord, recorder and cello are sparkling little jewels of their own. 2 CDs. Texts included. Thomas Gregg (tenor), Bethany Tammaro Condon (mezzo), Philip Lima (baritone), Erin Holmes (soprano), Emily Laurance, Ina Zdorovetchi (harps), Larry Bell, Maja Tremiszewska (pianos), Paul Cienniwa (harpsichord), John Muratore (guitar), Sam Ou (cello), Aldo Abreu (recorder).
