Description: We've had two complete recordings of Norwegian Chopin pupil and executor Tellefsen's solo piano compositions so it's very nice to suddenly be gifted with his 29-minute first concerto from 1847-48 which is very much like Chopin's First except where it has an engaging Schumannian dose of masculine energy. The fantastically talented Filtsch, whom everyone predicted would surpass both his teacher Chopin and (his own admission), Liszt, wrote only two orchestral works before his death just before turning 15 and we now have both of them: a Beethovenian overture of a bit more than seven minutes, probably composed not long before the 1842 Konzertstück, and this 15-minute piano concerto manqué which models itself on the first movement of Chopin's E minor concerto. Hubert Rutkowski (piano), Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra; Lukasz Borowicz.
