Description: In these works from 1883 and 1884, Klughardt blends lyricism and richness of sonority with concentrated motivic working with the same ease with which he plays both sides of the Brahms/Schumann vs. Wagner/Liszt stylistic divide to produce "serious" music of depth which is also a pure joy to the ear. His quartet was premiered on a program with Mozart and Beethoven's Op. 131 and it sounds like it belonged there perfectly. Pleyel Quartet Köln, Tobias Koch (1839 Érard fortepiano).
