Description: The third volume in Gramola's exil.arte series of suppressed and/or murdered Jewish composers brings three pieces with no other recordings currently available: Smit's 14-minute, three-movement Divertimento whose jazz and popular music references make it the perfect act to follow the Milhaud as it does on the CD; Toch's eight-minute, three-movement sonata which opens with an homage to Toch's favorite composer - Mozart - and continues in light, neo-classical fashion; and Gál's Marionettes, again neo-classical and representing the three well-known characters of the commedia dell'arte. Schoenberg's 1894 pieces, like Schubertian salon music, remain a stump-your-guest first-choice party trick. Friederike Haufe, Volker Ahmels (piano four-hands).
