Description: Don't worry! The pedal piano doesn't sound like an organ! Basically, what we have here are two Steinway Ds, one on top of the other and connected to it by a pedal-board with 37 pedals which operate 61 wooden fingers that depress the lowest 61 keys of the piano on the bottom. So what you get is what sounds like a piano with a monster bass end. And, even then, you have to concentrate to hear the effects, which are most evident in the 1889 concerto. All these works were written between 1885 (the concerto being last) and both larger-scale works are bright, sunny pieces with only one slow movement in each. The Suite is longer than the concerto (23 -20 min.), its subtitles telling all: Entrée de fête, Chasse, Romance and Tarantelle. Lots of light-hearted fun, worthy of the other end of the 19th century in mood if not in style! Roberto Prosseda (pedal piano), Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana; Howard Shelley.
