Description: Two of the rarest concerto types - piano trio and orchestra - come from two Italian composers and only 12 years apart. Casella's 1933 essay is quite colorful and romantic with a gorgeous, luminous, nocturnal slow movement while Ghedini's is quite other: an icy, uneasy evocation of the waters of the Antarctic as described by Melville in "Moby-Dick". The composer himself spoke of "obsessive sadness... desolation... loneliness... panic... terror..." which comes through marvellously in his spare, grey orchestration. Unusually, these are both live recordings and the impact benefits from it. Emanuela Piemonti (piano), Paolo Ghidoni (violin), Pierro Bosna (cello), Carlo Doglioni Majer (speaker), Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali: Damian Iorio.
