Description: Kancheli's 23-minute, single-movement work of 1996 is just like his orchestral works: long intervals of very quiet music bordering sometimes on silence broken by volcanic outbursts, tense with sense of expectation but the violin part is also mournful, seemingly adrift in an existential sense. Tüür's Conversio (1994) is a ten-minute perpetuum mobile with the two instruments in obsessive, repetitive rhythmic interaction, their lines meeting, fragmenting and refocusing. Glass' 2008 homage to the gestures of late romanticism was offered in these pages in February of 2011 in its first recording (02M088). Andrea Cortesi (violin), Marco Venturi (piano).
