Description: These quartets by this forgotten early Romantic Swiss composer date from 1826, 1828 and 1832 and generally tend toward the lyrical with Mendelssohn the closest comparandum but Frölich does not do sparky the way his German contemporary can. But the scherzi are high spirited and the finales are contrapuntal, with the E major containing a fugue. Tasty stuff for collectors of this period still not overrepresented in the record catalogue. Beethoven Quartet.
