Description: The Kiel (1876) is a four-movement work of 26 minutes is a richly romantic work with a style that doesn’t recall any of the era’s great composers in particular yet fits in perfectly with all of them and is one of the few viola sonatas between Anton Rubinstein’s of 1855 and Brahms’ pair. Sounding very much like Brahms though is Prince Reuss’ 1904 sonata (and he studied with Herzogenberg, so he got Brahms from both the composer, in whose circle of friends the prince was, and from his teacher). Anna Kreetta Gribajcevic (viola), Oliver Triendl (piano).
