Description: The main reason to offer this oddly programmed recital is the 1925 sonata by Vermeulen, a 20-minute piece which encloses a brief fast movement of nervous energy betweeen much slow music of rumination, unease and unsettling shadows - all tonal but not neo-romantic and certainly not indebted to the Neue Sachlichkeit of Hindemith et al. or the Futurism and avante-darde of the Lyatoshinsky three offerings below. The Namavar and Igudesman are written to please both audiences and performers, minimalism for the former and post-romanticism for the latter but whiplash rhythmic and time-signature changes in both. Magma Duo.
