Description: The two major rarities are the two songs (15 min.) to German translations of Whitman from 1923 (orch. 1927), expressionistic and as colorfully orchestrated as one would expect from Schreker’s operas, and the four Stücke of 1930 which carry the subtitle “Four Sketches for Film”. Carrying the movement headings “Hesitating”, “Violinet”, “Haunting” and “Pleasing”, these ten minutes of music were not written for a movie but are Schreker’s experimentation with the new genre of scores for talking pictures.
