Description: Fragmentations... consists of eleven fragments of music for conventional concert harp, which can be played as a separate piece of music, which is Fragmentation. The larger work incorporates a second, prepared harp, played by the same performer, which comments on the principal material through alternative tunings and playing techniques, and percussive and noise effects, some of which is expressed in graphic notation. The conventional harp material is fragmentary, though frequently sonorous, even sensuous - the sound of the harp has exerted a fascination on the composer throughout his long musical life, as described in a brief, moving essay in the booklet, written earlier this year. The brief Labirinti display the composer's unerring sense for harmonious textures, however complex or fragmentary his material. Giovanna Reitano (harp).
