Description: Neukomm all but abandoned secular compositions after around 1808 but his four Fantaises for orchestra (their sonata-form structures, although with plenty of combination and recombination of the elements) were an attempt to found a new genre. The concerto may have been written while his master, Haydn, was still overseeing his work; it too is unusual in its first-movement for its alternation rahter than combination of piano and orchestra. The pupil provided an orchestration of his teacher's cantata Ariadne in 1808, possibly at Haydn's request since he owed his publisher an orchestral version of the original 1789 voice/piano version. Italian-English texts. Riko Fukuda (fortepiano), Marianne Beate Kielland (mezzo), Kölner Akademie; Michael Alexander Willens.
