Description: Two of these works are part of Marx's Nature Trilogy (offered on ASV back in April 2003 as part of a series which did not see it's planned seven-disc fruition). Dating from 1925, Idylle is a pastoral meditation and Frühlingsmusik, richly-colored, brilliantly orchestrated, brimming with romantic and lyrical passion, depicts an ecstatic communion with nature. A world premiere recording, Feste im Herbst is a recomposed version of the last movement of the monumental "Autumn Symphony" (which ASV never got around to recording). Cutting down the vast orchestral forces forced Marx to completely dispense with some music and to entirely recompose others but some material remains intact. This ode to autumn and its moods of twilight, melancholy and reflection also, of course, includes the boisterous aspects of autumn harvest festivals. With the original work not having been performed since 1927 (it wouldn't yet be done until 2005), Marx fashioned this 1946 piece as a stand-alone tone poem (lasting 24 minutes here) which proved to be his farewell to composition. Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra; Johannes Wildner.
