Description: This is the only available recording (and not available in the U.S. except right here) of the original orchestral version of Duruflé's Dances from 1938. The transparent orchestration, joyous rhythmic elan and sparkling personality of these works truly makes it unfortunate that Duruflé composed so little for orchestra. There is also no other version of Alain's 12-minute Sarabande, a dignified passacaglia-like piece with chorale elements which is the only surviving element of what were to have been three orchestral dances of his own, dating from between 1937-39. Marie-Claire Alain (organ), Bamberg Symphony; Jean-Jacques Kantorow. Original 1998 Erato release.
