Description: Published as Op. 16 in 1883 but listed also in encyclopedias as Op. 11 (1881), the symphony is listed in the latter as being in D minor but here as in D major. Since this four-hand transcription is the only available recording, you can sort it out yourselves - only the unusual extra movement, the fourth-placed Serenata, has been recorded before. The funeral march is attributed to Sgambati - the manuscript in the Sgambati Archive is not in his hand - while Liszt commissioned the very young composer in 1857 to make this transcription of one of his longest (29 minutes here) and least well-known tone poems.
