Description: Künneke's "concerto in five movements for jazz band and large orchestra" was written for radio broadcasting in 1929 and its late recording date is surprising given Nazi antipathy to "degenerate" jazz. Of equal interest in Egk's suite of excerpts from a dance work premiered in 1940 - these recordings were made in Paris under German occupation and the work seems to have been a Nazi ambassador of culture as it also had three performances in Rome in 1943.
