Description: Petersen is a mysterious figure who may have been from Holstein, was apparently not a professional musician (he was in the fish business!), but who published the first set of violin and continuo sonatas in the Netherlands in 1683. Stylistically all over the place (meaning you can call them "Stylus Phantasticus") they may have been inspired by the German Johann Jacob Walther's Scherzi a violino solo of 1676 with whom they share many traits.
